The Journey

The fellowship began with a simple but powerful idea: if women are given opportunities to lead, connect and serve, they can become catalysts for transformation in their communities.

Launched on 8 August 2020 as a District 9211 programme known as ``Rotary Roses`` by District Governor Rosetti Nabbumba Nayenga, the programme was initially created to attract and engage more women in Rotary.

Rotary Roses quickly grew beyond its original purpose into a platform for mentorship, fellowship, service, and leadership development. On 18 June 2021, it evolved into the Rotary Fellowship for Empowering Women, officially recognised as an international Rotary Fellowship.

Global Founding Leadership

PDG Rosetti Nabbumba Nayenga (Founding Visionary): She was the first female District Governor of Rotary District 9211 in Uganda and the visionary behind the Rotary Roses programme that gave birth to RFEW. Her vision was to create a platform that would recognise women's contributions, strengthen women's leadership and increase women's participation in Rotary and community service.
